The Art of War on the Health Care Debate

I have been reading the Art of War these past couple of days.  And I couldn’t help but think about Senator Nancy Pelosi’s and Senator Harry Reid’s actions these past few days as I read this:

IX. The Army on the March

24. Humble words and increased preparations are signs that the enemy is about to advance. Violent language and driving forward as if to the attack are signs that he will retreat.

This will be an interesting test of Sun Tzu’s words. But I definitely feel that the many words from Senator Reid are a sign that he knows he is losing.

But it goes even further than just one quote for The Art of War.  Sun Tzu also talks about Senator Reid by stating:

IX. The Army on the March

41. He who exercises no forethought but makes light of his opponents is sure to be captured by them.

I don’t want to jinx this whole thing with this, but it the Democrats are sure looking like the losers on this battle.

  • Boy they sure do what with that legislative majority, White House (willing to bet for the next 7 years after this one), and popularity sitting consistently at 10pts higher that the numbers of the GOP.

Art of War is a great book, but too many, like you, use it for hope in a time of desperation. You can find a passage for any perspective in what is admittedly and intriguing book.

I’m thinking Reid just actually believed what he was saying. And I’d also be willing to bet history sides with him (let’s face it, the GOPs actions in the HCR debate haven’t exactly been any more admirable than a petulant teenager).
